Banshee Redesign

I decided to redesign my Young Justice Banshee/Sue Long so she has a new look that better reflects her parentage, half English (Caucasian) and half Vietnamese, and a back story that makes more sense.

But before that I'm going to explain my choices for her outfit. For those that don't know, Banshee's come from Irish Folk Lore, and they are female spirits that warn of death and despair by shrieking or screaming. Her symbol is meant to represent this ability, and her suit colours mimic those usually attributed to banshee's, red and green.

The fishnet arms are a nod to her mentor Black Canary who wears fishnet stockings. I considered giving Banshee a shorter costume with fishnet stocking's to be even more reminiscent of Canary's outfit, but at this point Banshee's only 16 and having her run around like that felt a little inappropriate to me. Maybe when I redesign her season 2 look I'll incorporate it. 

There's no special reason for the mask gloves or boots, just part of a normal hero suit, but the belt has a pouch were she keeps little gadgets from Green Arrow (like tracers and the various things he puts on his arrows).

And now her bio (only her past has changed so if you've read the original feel free to skip most of this):

Real Name: Sue Vanh-Long (goes by Sue Long)

Gender: Female

Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual

Love Interest: Kaldur/Aqualad

Best Friends: Artemis and Wally/Kid Flash

Personality: She's a peace maker and always willing to help others, but internalises her own problems, refusing help. Though she is trust worthy, it is difficult for her to trust others and open up. She projects a bubbly, fun-loving, and energetic personality, to cover up her issues. This personality isn't fake, it's just not the full truth. Sue is childish, immature, impulsive, and disrespectful in season 1, but as the season progresses and she goes through some bad stuff she beings to mature quickly. Between seasons 1 & 2 she leaves the team for.... reasons, and by the time she rejoins the team just before season 2, she has matured, learnt respect and is trying to open up to her friends.

Backstory: Sue was born to Ly Vanh (from Vietnam) and Brennen Long (from England) when they were both studying science in America. It was a one night stand, but when Brennen found out Ly was pregnant, they decided to move in together and raise the child, but a friends and not a couple.

This worked well for many years, as the two quickly became good friends and mostly agreed on how they wanted to raise Sue. They wanted their daughter to be perfect. What they thought was perfect. Which meant she had to be beautiful, intelligent, and talented at things like maths and literature. But Sue preferred sports, and excelled in soccer. This caused friction between Sue and her parents as they wanted their daughter to attend lectures and take part in science fairs while Sue wanted to join the local sport teams. This was a problem, but nothing compared to what Brennen decided to do next.

After the appearance of sidekicks like Robin, Kid flash etc, Brennen realised that his daughter could never be 'perfect' as long as she was an ordinary human, and in the twelve years since Sue had been born, Ly and Brennen had graduated from College and had both become a scientists at Cadmus.

While Cadmus was working mostly on their Genomorph and Clone projects, they did have a small side project where they experimented with meta-abilities. The experiments they conducted tested meta-abilities, and attempted to make them weaker/more powerful, to remove them, and to create them. To this they exposed specimens (both human and meta-human) to various chemicals, radiation, etc. Brennen was in charge of this project, and to help his daughter achieve 'perfection', he wanted her to became yet another specimen.

He approached this idea with Ly, but the idea of putting their daughter through that terrified her. While she could live with the experiments on others, to do it to her own daughter crossed a line. Ly forbid Brennen from taking their daughter anywhere near Cadmus, and believed that was that.
  
Only a few nights later, Sue disappeared. When Ly found her empty bed in the morning, she knew it wasn't a coincidence and went straight to Cadmus. She found Sue fourteen floors down, but it was already to late. Brennen had already pumped Sue full of the chemicals that would change her life forever.

Ly broke Sue out of her pod and attempted to escape with her. A chase and fight ensued, where Ly freed some of the meta-humans as a distraction. In the chaos, Sue managed to escape, but Ly was not so lucky. The last Sue saw of her mother was her being thrown to the ground by a Genomorph before she vanished into the crowd. Sue has no idea if her mother survived.

Sue did not return home. Instead she broke the windows of her parents cars and took everything she could, coins, valuables, even the wallet that her mother had left behind. Using the cash she found she brought a train ticket as far as she could go. Then she pawned off anything she could and took out all the money she could from her mothers cards. 

From there Sue wandered the country, living off what she had and what she could steal. She avoided staying in any city for more than a couple of weeks, terrified her father was hunting her down. This went on for six months, until she found herself in Star City, where she was found by Green Arrow and Speedy. 

They attempted to stop Sue from mugging, only to be knocked off their feet when she screamed at them. The pair managed to take Sue down without issue after realising she had the same meta-abilities as Black Canary, and once they had her, they brought Sue to Canary.

Sue was initially against working with Canary, she had lost all trust in others thanks to her father, but through persistence Canary was able to convince Sue to join her. Canary trained Sue in both how to use her powers and martial arts. After two years of training, at fourteen Sue became Black Canary's sidekick Banshee.
